Radio Bedtime Stories Mirroring Socio-political Changes in Czechoslovakia in the "Golden Sixties" The aim of the work is a media analysis of Dobrou noc, děti (Good Night, Children) - a radio bedtime story series broadcast in the years 1961-1971. In addition to the origin and development of the programme, allusions to contemporary socio-political events, which were reflected in its content, are also examined. The dissertation deals with the changes in the radio programme and follows them from the beginning of socio-political changes in the 1960s until the beginning of the "normalization era". In this work, the radio bedtime story is also conceived from an anthropological perspective as a cultural phenomenon. The dissertation is formally divided into three parts-historical, empirical and interpretive. The focus of the historical chapter is a description of the development of radio in Czechoslovakia. The empirical part includes an analysis of the radio bedtime story in the years 1961-1971. The interpretive part deals mainly with how the radio bedtime story and its creators reacted to political anniversaries and Christian holidays in the period under review. At the end of the work, the programme is examined from an anthropological point of view as a cultural change.

Dudová Using the Effects of Public Cultural Services in the Development Strategies of Cities Abstract This dissertation focuses on analysing the utilization of the effects of public cultural services in the development strategies of selected towns (Český Krumlov, Velké Meziříčí and Blatná) for the development of these localities. The theoretical part of the dissertation is dedicated to the research of existing approaches to the solution of the issue, the definition of key concepts and the framework of the concept of public cultural services in the context of the specific situation of strategic management and planning culture of the administrative units in the Czech Republic. It has identified a wide range of potential non-economic benefits of public cultural services, from individual benefits to social impact for the wider community. The analytical part is focused on the position and the importance of culture, cultural services, and its possible benefits in key policy and strategic documents of the selected cities. Representation of The Velvet Revolution and Culture Changes in Popular Culture

The thesis Representation of The Velvet Revolution and Culture Changes in Popular Culture focuses on contemporary TV series Vyprávěj and it focuses on the specific ways of representation of the historical moment of the end of the commmunist regime in Czechoslovakia. It is divided into two main part - theoretical and analytical. The theoretical one starts with a description of theoretical basis of media construction of reality and social constructivism. Following part of theoretical part is dedicated to theory of collective memory. Then the thesis continues with definiton of the principle of seriality. The next chapter is about historical description of events known under the term Velvet Revolution. In the last chapter of theoretical part is introduced TV series Vyprávěj, its plot and its main characters. It is also essential to distinguish two approaches to the analysis of media contents, which are content analysis and semiotic analysis. In the empirical part, the author defines the object of research. Then she sets hypotheses and define the categories that monitors on a sample of five relevant parts. Then several key scenes is subjected to semiotic analysis.
Analysis of the Representation of Sexual Minorities in Marvel Comics

The topic of this work is the analysis of development of the LGBT minority in Marvel comics. Action, appearance, relations, speech and story-lines of characters are to be used as semiotic resources and analysed using tools of visual studies and social semiotics. Visual anthropology, semiotics and sociology will serve as the main theoretical base. This work aims to identify changes of representation of said minorities in the context of social and cultural changes in American society.

The main goal of this thesis is to study the life and customs of the Lacandon Indians, one of the smallest indigenous groups of Maya origin, who live in two villages in the Lacandon jungle, in Chiapas, Mexico. The thesis is focused on Lacandon life from the time when they were living in relative isolation from the outside world, and also on changes that have occurred during the 20th century. It has been particularly considered the changes in the Lacandon family and the position of Lacandon women. The study is based on available ethnographic studies, gender theories and especially on my own research realized in the communities of Lacanjá and Nahá from 2008 to 2012.
Czechoslovak (Czech) Radio Broadcasting and Cultural Innovation

This thesis Czechoslovak (Czech) Radio Broadcasting and Cultural Innovation is designed as a cultural study of radio boradcasting development in years 1923 - 1999. Radio broadcasting development is interpreted as a process of cultural change. The aim of this thesis is to capture spreading innovation of the radio and describe the stages of this cultural change. The thesis is divided into two parts, a theoretical part and an empirical part. The theoretical part defines basic problems, deals with the theory of culture and media, the characteristics of radio communication. Particular attention is paid to description of the conditions affecting formation and development of the radio. The main focus of this work is to describe the radio development in Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic. The second part is devoted to analysis of empirical data and sources, predominantly to secondary and historical analysis of accessible data regarding the radio. The major emphasis is placed on culturological interpretation of results of the analysis. This part also summarizes the importance of cultural innovation in terms of development of the Czechoslovak and Czech radio broadcasting. The concluding chapter deals with changes of this radio broadcasting.

PhDr. Ondřej Hubáček: Socio-cultural adaptation of local communities. Dissertation 2012. Abstract This dissertation deal with the socio-cultural adaptation of local communities to the external (exogenous) changes by means of internal (endogenous) changes of the elements of the local socio-cultural system. The dissertation builds on the long-term research on local culture conducted by the Department of Cultural Studies, Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague. It focuses on issues of socio-cultural potential of towns, which observes from two aspects. In terms of specifics of the towns, especially the differences between the particular components and forms of socio- cultural potential, and in terms of its reproduction, ie the process of changes in their components and forms. Methodologically, the dissertation is based on secondary analysis of data collected in the research and reinterpretation of findings and conclusions made out in past analyzes. The dissertation has three objectives. First, to complete spectrum of views on the issue of changes taking place due to macro-social transformation processes at the level of local communities and local cultures with the view of cultural studies. It is associated with a number of other current issues that affect various areas of the life of the society. The thesis focuses on their identification, their historical development, and their reflection from the point of view of social sciences. It attempts to interpret them as socio-cultural phenomena. These problems manifest themselves in quite divergent areas, such as gender differences, influence of technology and the media on the society, economic behaviour of people, self- presentation, social activities, impact of new technology, dissemination of socially pathological phenomena, escapist functions of the media, creation and reproduction of social networks and social groups. The thesis applies an axiological and non- axiological approach to the examined phenomena. The solution of the topic is complemented with findings relating to the specified problems, which have been obtained through an empirical survery.
Indian painting - a history of cultural dialogues

This bachelor thesis attempts to dissert about the symbolical (art) reflection of chosen socio-cultural changes indigenous to repetitional situations of acultural process in the historical context of the Indian subcontinent. The changes will be pursued within the temporal range of the Middle Ages, the Colonial Period, the Era of Modern India (since 1947), till the present. The key topics discussed in the thesis are also the postcolonial prospecting of an authentic cultural identity and the cultural challenge of globalization trespassing Indian culture - as well as its art. The thesis will provide the reflection of concrete problems relating religious heterogeneity, social life and social identity, gender and human sexuality, which have been mirroring in fine arts of the historically changing Indian context. The idiomatic dialogue in between single art traditions is also implied within the thesis as a crucial thematic component.

Labour Migration of the Hawan Ha Clan Mongghul to Aksu in Xinjiang Abstract: The current work focuses on the ongoing labour migration of the Mongghul Ha Clan from Hawan, Gansu Province to Aksu in southern Xinjiang. It presents the motivation for the migration, and examines the social, economic and cultural changes the migration has catalyzed. Impacts on local Uyghur engendered by in-migrants are discussed. The work also features an overview and a generalization of the contemporary labour migration in China and Xinjiang in particular. Interviews with migrants are transcribed in Mongghul and translated to English and serve as an important source for the work.
